    Right now, it costs approximately $300 to install a new wood dock piling with piling wrap. In many areas of the state of Florida, the Department of Environmental Protection (EPA) requires the attachment of a polyethylene wrap to the treated timber piling in an attempt to reduce the leaching effect of the chemical Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) into the water. CCA is widely used as the chemical treatment for timber pilings to protect them from marine borer attack.

    Marine borers can result in the structural failure of a dock's timber support structure in 5, 10 or 15 years.

    The application of piling wrap is still being debated today. Many experienced marine contractors have testified that the wrap is ineffective.
